Five Things I Can’t Live Without at Home

I spend a lot of time waxing poetic about the benefits of decluttering. That manual on how to operate your garlic press? Don’t need it. The collection of empty iPhone cases dating back to 2004? Nopity nope. The extra fifteen canvas totes hiding underneath the other fifteen canvas totes? Dont. Need. Em.

Now, what about all the keep stuff?

If you struggle to get rid of items (and wish you had an easier time), sometimes it’s equally important to meditate on the essentials, the stuff that makes your home feel like home. If you’re in the midst of decluttering and reach an impasse, make a list of ten non-negotiables. This will make the process so much easier, as you can match up items to your list.

While it might seem like I live in a house with just a straw mat and a straw hat, I’m sharing my top five can’t-live-withouts:

Alessi Kettle.  As a tea drinker and non-morning person, this kettle is my morning (and midday and afternoon) savior. It has a cute little bird-shaped whistle that sings once the water is boiling. How chic! How essential!

Glerups Slippers. These slippers are probably the very opposite of chic, but they are infinitely warm, cozy and equally practical. They have a nice rubber sole so they keep my feet supported when I putter around the house.

Cire Trudon Candles. Do I absolutely NEED these candles to function? No. Would my home feel sad without them? Yes. The refreshingly minty smell in the Abd El Kader version is unmatched and keeps me feeling (and smelling) PEAK chic all day long.

Yoga mat. My yoga mat is one of the first and last things I interact with each and every day. Mine is actually terribly un-chic and reminds me of gym class circa 2003, but it’s tucked away in a closet most of the time. That mat is a must!

Dyson Hair Dryer. This is probably one of the best things to ever happen to my hair. It cuts my blow-drying in half, and makes my hair look as smooth as glass! It’s not particularly a home objet, per se, but I include it here because I use it at home and it brings me JOY.
Your can’t-live-withouts might surprise you! Once you get clear on them, everything else is just fluff and noise!
