Five Ways to Stylishly Organize Your Closet
When organization merges with style in your closet, magic happens. Not only is there a seamless flow and rhythm to the space, but there’s also visual appeal as well. And when there’s visual appeal, getting dressed will feel more enjoyable and less like a chore!
The first step to stylishly organizing your closet is to use uniform hangers. It doesn’t really matter what type you use, though I find black felt hangers and wood hangers to look the most polished. This streamlines your closet, makes your clothes pop, and creates a boutique-like atmosphere in the space. If you’re reorganizing and decluttering, it’s definitely worth swapping out all those mismatched hangers for one new set. Old hangers can be donated to the Goodwill, and Dry Cleaning hangers can even be returned to your local Dry-Cleaner’s.
The second step is to keep those closet storage-saving solutions to a minimum. Scarf hangers might seem handy, but they end up becoming a tangled mess in your closet. Same goes for those 5-tier pant hangers, which always stick out like a sore thumb on your clothing rack. Plus, hanging pants on these is always a chore (these things aren’t so easy to use!).
The third step to elevating your closet: displaying your shoes in a neat, easily accessible fashion. If you have the room, I’m partial to the Ikea Billy Bookcase for shoe storage, as it looks super sleek and comes with adjustable shelves (hello, knee-high boots!).
Similarly, if you have a large purse collection, it’s all too easy to keep them forever tucked away in their dust bags. Instead, consider displaying them on your upper shelf with the help of clear shelf dividers. These work best to organize larger purses, but if clutches are your thing, this purse organizer works best.
Finally, if you have the room for off-season storage in your closet, consider placing clothes in canvas zip storage bags instead of bins. Canvas bags give a lighter, airier feel to your closet, whereas wicker baskets can weigh down the space, especially if they’re placed on upper shelves.
